China Tour for Bob Schultz Head of Brass
"Recently I travelled to the North-Western part of China to perform at the International Silk Road music festival which was being held in Jiayuguan City, Gansu Province. I had the great opportunity to perform with the BoB (Best of Brass) brass quintet and with my own jazz quintet, The Bob Schultz Quintet.

Jiayuguan city has an extensive history spanning over 630 years and only has a population of 250,000 people. After many days of travel, including 2 planes, one overnight train trip and one bus just to arrive in Jiayuguan, we embarked on 7 performances over the course of the three day music festival. Along with performances at the festival, my jazz quintet were invited to perform especially for the grand opening of a specialist jazz venue in Lanzhou city called the 6/8 Bar. Also when not performing, I was fortunate enough to give masterclasses and clinics at the North West Music School for over 400 very enthusiastic students.

Amongst our busy performance schedule and the blistering heat, there was little time for sightseeing; however, we still managed to sneak in some scenic views and plenty of authentic food! Some of the highlights were getting the chance to explore the beginning tier of the most western part of The Great Wall of China, and also taking an overnight train between cities letting us view the remarkable scenery of the Chinese desert."Mr Bob Schultz, Head of Brass
