Sheldon College Percussion Ensemble

The Sheldon College Percussion Department has had a very successful year, growing to include a third percussion ensemble made up of our Year 4 to 6 students. In June 2013, our three percussion ensembles were invited to perform at the Australia Percussive Arts Society Day of Percussion which was held at the Queensland Conservatorium. All three ensembles performed to a very high standard impressing the delegates attending the event.

Term 3 also proved to be a busy term with our annual percussion night, Percussimo being held in August. All of our Middle and Senior College students performed solos for parents and then entertained them with ensemble performances.

Term 4 has started with a bang for our percussionists. Our senior percussion ensemble and drumline were invited to perform alongside the UQ percussion ensemble and St. Peter’s ensembles at a Percussion Spectacular held at St. Peter’s Lutheran College on Friday 18 October 2013.  Our students were outstanding on the night, receiving a great deal of positive feed-back from audience members. The weekend culminated in a performance by all four of our ensembles at the Queensland Music Fest competition held at Mansfield State High School. Our younger students were simply outstanding as they mixed with the best music schools from around Brisbane. We had an extremely successful day with the following results.

Junior Section: Percussion Ensemble III – Gold; Percussion Ensemble II – Gold.;

Senior Section: Percussion Ensemble I – Platinum; Drumline – Silver.

I would like to thank all parents and guardians for their continued support of the Percussion Program as we look toward 2014.

Mr David Adelt
Head of Percussion and Woodwind.
