2016 Arts Academy Awards

2016 Arts Academy Awards

On Saturday 17 September over 300 singers, dancers and musicians took to the stage at the Sheldon Event Centre and wowed their audience of 800 with performances that were of the standard of professional performers. Many mentioned they had to remind themselves during the evening that the performers were, in fact, current students of Sheldon College. Some of the notable performances were ‘Purple Rain’, ‘Geronimo’, ‘Chicago’ and a wonderful ‘Fame’ Medley including Wearable Art which also saw the first part of the evening ending with a large production of ‘Les Miserables’. A definite roof raiser for the night as was the finale performance of a Beyonce Medley.

Overall 16 Awards were presented on the evening in varying categories. Sheldon College Actress of the Year was awarded to Jasmine Martin whilst Actor of the Year went to Jackson Bannister. Both these students had major lead roles in this year’s ‘Addams Family’ musical. Another favourite and highly contested award of the night, 2016 Dancer of the Year was presented to Georgia Blair.

Recently returning from his achievements at the Australian Percussion titles in Melbourne, Justin Zheng will be adding to his trophy shelf again as he was named Instrumentalist of the Year.

Rise Media took out this year’s Production Group of the Year Award with the very skilled member of this Group Lachlan Trott, also awarded Director of the Year.

Aliya Yildirim was named Interdisciplinary Media Artist of the Year and Ellie McBain was very happy to receive her 2D Multi-Media Artist of the Year Award.

Best Emerging Artist of the Year was won by Ellen Warner who had a wonderful year and was recognised for her hard work throughout 2016.
