Arts Academy’s Greatest Hits

Sheldon College celebrated a decade of Arts excellence on Saturday 20 September 2014 when it hosted the 10th Annual Arts Academy Awards at the Sheldon Event Centre.

The black tie evening was a sell out with almost 800 guests in attendance. Sheldon College Alumni played a big part in the evening - presenting awards and performing on stage, including video links from Megan Washington and Connor Crawford who graduated from Sheldon College in 2002 and 2008 respectively. All Senior School Arts were acknowledged in the gala evening and the enthusiastic audience was treated to an outstanding series of performances from the 170 member student cast. Special focus was made of former and current students of the Australian School of the Arts (ASTA) program at Sheldon College.

"Our ASTA Alumni are now firmly established on the local, National and World stage, and the ASTA program continues to grow" Mr Darren Harvey, Director of ASTA

Sheldon Alumnus Stars in 'Circle of Lies'

Senior College Arts students were fortunate to have actor Ryan Harrison return to Sheldon College to promote his new film, ‘Circle Of Lies’ and participate in a Q&A about the acting industry. Ryan graduated from Sheldon College in 2006 and was heavily involved in all facets of the Arts, including lead roles in College Musicals. Ryan has since established himself as a rising star in the Australian film scene and is poised to begin work overseas in a feature film next year. Ryan spoke with the students at length about pathways into the industry, how to get an agent, the importance of an artist’s network and how to be resilient when it comes to auditioning.

Many past teachers and fellow alumni of Ryan attended the screening and Q&A held at Victoria Point Cineplex, including Miss Lauren Cossettini who said it was so wonderful to see how Ryan’s hard work had paid off and where he was now on his journey seven years on from them graduating together. Listening to Ryan and his fellow colleagues talk about the filmmaking process and his personal journey, those involved learnt so much and felt a sense of pride in knowing where Ryan was now headed in his career.
