2015 Arts Academy Awards

Another entourage of students is bound for stage stardom after stealing the show at the 11th Annual Arts Academy Awards on Saturday 19 September. Staged to coincide with Hollywood’s Academy Awards, this year’s brilliant instalment saw more than 300 singers, dancers and musicians raise the roof off the Sheldon Event Centre.

Seasoned song and dance man Travis Johnson capped a stellar season of excellence when he was named 2015 Actor of the Year and the Year 12 student was back on the podium a short time later to accept another award as the 2015 Dancer of the Year. However fellow Year 12 Student Manali Datar scooped the pool when she was named Actress of the Year, won the Senior Cultural Award and then the major annual award, the prestigious Gold Award.

Sheldon College Captain Matthew Copley added another accolade to his burgeoning resume of scholastic excellence when he was named the Instrumentalist of the Year while at the end of the spectrum, April Beak was named Best Emerging Artist of the Year.

Triad Studios won the Production Group of the Year category while the highly sought after Director of the Year trophy went to Adam Shaw. Bronwyn Myers was named Interdisciplinary Media Artist of the Year and Charlotte Balfour secured 2D Multi-Media Artist of the Year.

Emerging star Axel Duffy was acknowledged for his brilliant work throughout 2015 when he was named Male Vocalist of the Year and his partner in rhyme, Jaimee Godfrey was named Female Vocalist of the Year.

Dreams Come True with ‘Dreamgirls’ 2015

The 2015 Sheldon College Musical ‘Dreamgirls’ really was a dream come true for the talented cast and crew who wowed audiences over the recent season at Redland Performing Arts Centre. Over 150 student singers, actors and dancers were ably supported by over 60 musicians, lighting, media, AV and backstage crew as they brought to life the story of ‘The Dreams’ which is centred around the rise of Motown music and the famous girl groups of the 1960’s.

Student performers were challenged to sing and act beyond their years to bring the adult characters to life and their performances saw standing ovations from the sold out crowds. Special guests from the Arts industries and tertiary sector also echoed the audience’s feeling that the 2015 production was the best ever for Sheldon College. A huge thank you to all of the parent and alumni volunteers who gave their time and energy to the production. We would also like to thank the Sheldon College staff who guided and mentored the students to greatness on stage.

Congratulations to all for making dreams come true.
