Musical 2016

We are pleased to announce that our 2016 Senior College Musical is ‘The Addams Family’.  All performances will be presented at the Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) in Cleveland and tickets will go on general sale from Wednesday 23 March 2016.

It’s a dismal day at the Addams family’s mansion, with the ever-approaching storm clouds reflecting the gloomy atmosphere that has beset the household. Daughter Wednesday, now eighteen years old, has found herself experiencing a surprising new sensation, one that frightens both her and her family: she has fallen in love. Lucas Beineke, the object of her affections, comes from a seemingly normal family, and he and his parents Mal and Alice are on their way to the Addams’ estate to become better acquainted with the family over dinner. Brother Pugsley, who has been largely ignored since Wednesday’s involvement with Lucas, begins to miss the attention his sister previously paid to him and pleads with her to torture him once more. Meanwhile, mother Morticia finds herself conflicted over her ever-maturing daughter’s newfound feelings, while oblivious father Gomez simply wishes things would remain the way they were. As they learn to relate to the Beinekes and cope with Wednesday’s romance, one thing is certain: the Addams family will never be the same.

'Just Dance' 2015

Sheldon College’s annual dance spectacular, ‘Just Dance’, was held at the Redland Performing Arts Centre on Saturday 27 June 2015. The students worked intensely in venue on Friday 26 June with the production team to tie all elements of the show together.  ‘Just Dance’ was divided into four sections this year to present varied and succinct performances that allowed more parents, friends and students to watch in the audience.  The sections showcased the Junior, Middle and Senior College students who partake in Curricular and Extra-Curricular Dance studies at Sheldon College. The performances were presented by students from the ASTA Dance Academy, ASTA Professionals Combined Performing Arts program and Classroom Dance. A range of dance genres and styles was displayed including jazz, ballet, contemporary, lyrical and hip hop.

Creative and engaging choreography was designed by both staff and students. Our talented dance staff include Sally Muntz, Alexandra Smikoff, Emma Thomsen, Hayley Balcomb, Rylee Panui and Year 12 student Travis Johnson. Guest choreographers this year have included Luis Pinto and Jasmine Meakin from Mega Jam and Demi Jenkins from RAW.

Some of our talented students were selected to present choreography including the Advanced Group directors Caitlin Nolan, Charlotte Balfour, Megan Rainbird and Travis Johnson. Senior College Choreography Competition winner Caitlin Nolan (1st Place – Dance Film), Georgia Blair, Katie Fortnum and Micayla Van Wyk (2nd Place – Hip Hop) and Aliya Yildrim, Emmerson McMillan, Lauryn Watson, Portia Bourke and Taylah Brady (3rd Place – Contemporary Dance) performed their own choreography showing not only impressive performance skills but an exceptional ability to create and design a dance piece.

This year at we concluded the shows with a dedication to the beautiful Chloe Saunders. Chloe was a passionate and inspiring young girl who shared her love for dancing and performing with her friends and family. She danced at Sheldon College alongside her peers in the Jitterbugs and Fusion Dance Ensembles and she was always capturing audiences with her charismatic and loveable energy. In memory of Chloe, Sheldon College, Blair, Leesa and Jack Saunders and the Claffey family, decided to create an annual award that recognised the qualities that Chloe demonstrated everyday through her love of the Arts. The award is named ‘Get Dancing!’ after the card Ned Claffey made for Chloe whilst she was in hospital. A picture of the card is featured on the plaque that is proudly displayed in the Arts hub at Sheldon College. Each year Leesa Saunders personally designs the trophy for the award recipient. The ‘Get Dancing!’ Award for 2015 was presented to Year 10 student Dominik Kregar. Dominik is a dedicated and passionate dance student who always strives to do his very best. He is a valuable team member of the Synergy ensemble and is an exceptional role model.

Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way to the production of ‘Just Dance’.  An event of this size requires countless hours and support behind the scenes and your input is greatly appreciated.  Congratulations to each and every student who took to the stage.  We are very proud of your efforts!
