‘West Side Story’ Surpasses All Expectations

Sheldon College has once again lifted the bar for the standard of school musicals in Queensland with their latest stunning contemporary presentation of the classic “West Side Story” at the Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC).

Over 2,000 audience members were unanimous in their standing ovations and feedback to the College on the unparalleled professionalism of the musical theatre performance. A cast and crew of over 120 students delivered on what is widely regarded as the most difficult of Broadway musicals to present in a school setting. Some outstanding reviews were posted online about the show, and there was significant social media coverage during the performance week. It was another inspiring achievement from the Sheldon College Community and in particular the students of the Australian School of the Arts who provided many of the lead roles.

"These students far surpassed mine and more importantly their own expectations with this show. Their ability to deal with such a mature storyline and present it in such a way that left their audience in tears is a real tribute to the hours of hard work they put in on a weekly basis. Students were looking forward to being able to extend their experience and new skills gained during the musical as they settled back into their curriculum studies".Director/Producer - Darren Harvey

The decision for a 2015 musical will be made leading up to the Annual Arts Academies Awards on Saturday 20 September 2014.
