Sixteen Sheldon College singers had the opportunity of a lifetime to perform in the international tour One Voice – Live in Concert, with Aled Jones at QPAC, Brisbane on Friday 6 October.
The Sheldon College Eve Choir was hand-picked by Aled Jones from a pool of three hundred applicants to open the evening with a fifteen minute QPAC segment. The Eve Choir performed “In Flanders Fields”, “Eleanor Rigby”, “City of Stars” and “Kissing You”, and closed the opening act by singing “Deep Peace” with Aled Jones.
Miss Rachel Head, Performance Music Teacher and conductor of the Eve choir said, “I’m so incredibly proud of how the students performed at QPAC on Friday evening. What an amazing opportunity to be able to open for an international touring artist in such a great venue.”
Following the performance, Aled Jones MBE, said "What a pleasure to work with a group of such passionate young singers. Sheldon College’s Eve vocal ensemble were the consummate professionals. Not only did they sound like angels, you could see in their faces they were really feeling the music."
Year 12 student Lauren Van Maarseveen said, “We were so fortunate to not only meet Aled Jones, but to have the opportunity to sing with him.” Mikayla Yates, a Year 10 student commented, “It was interesting to see all the behind the scenes that goes into a professional production.”
The Aled Jones tour follows the release of the One Voice album by Universal Music, in which the former choirboy duets with his younger self. In the UK this was a #1 selling album and marks a sensational musical comeback for the singer, being his first top 10 album in over 30 years.
