Arts Festival 2017

Arts Festival 2017

The Australian School of the Arts inaugural Arts Festival was held on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 November 2017.

The festival, which featured performances by over 250 of our ASTA Dance and Drama Academy students, was a great success and we look forward to expanding and showcasing additional groups and performances in 2018.

Our Dance Academy ensembles showcased their great versatility in items including hip hop, jazz, contemporary, acrobatic dance and more. The winners of our Middle College Choreography competition were also featured at this event.

The Drama Academy performers presented three very different pieces of theatre. The Year 7 and 8 Musical Theatre group sang and danced their way into everyone’s hearts with their production of Beauty and the Beast Jr. The Year 7 and 8 Acting group performed a modern interpretation of Antigone, highlighting their excellent use of dialogue and emotions. And last, but certainly not least, the Year 1-6 group displayed some wonderful characterisation and storytelling in their performance of The Wizard of Oz.

Our ASTA Dance and Drama Academy classes provide our young performers with the opportunity to learn important skills sets, that will equip them to be a part of the many performance opportunities that the Department has to offer. We welcome all new students who are interested in the performing arts to sign up for our 2018 ASTA programmes.
